In a big blow to Team India, their pace spearhead and vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah was not named in their Playing 11 for the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday (November 1). With the hosts despearte for a win after being 0-2 down in the three-match series, their first Test series defeat in home in 12 years, they would have ideally wanted to use the services of one of their best bowlers Bumrah. However, it is being learnt that the speedster was not available for selection.
While India captain Rohit Sharma said that Bumrah was not well, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) later issued a statement regarding his absence from the third Test.
"Mr Jasprit Bumrah has not fully recovered from his viral illness. He was unavailable for selection for the third Test in Mumbai," a statement put out by the BCCI read on X (formerly Twitter).
