While India are in a spot of bother as far as their spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final is concerned, having lost each of their first two Test matches against New Zealand at home. Moreover, they were handed a bit of a blow when reports suggested that India captain Rohit Sharma has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he might have to miss one of the first two Test matches against Australia Down Under.
While it was being speculated that Rohit could miss one of the Tests because he is set to become father for the second time, the news of Rohit's wife Ritika's pregnancy was all but confirmed with commentator Harsha Bhogle's remark on air during the India vs New Zealand third test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
"Plenty of word around Rohit Sharma going into the tour of Australia," Bhogle said on air during Day 2 of the third Test.
"He might miss the first Test, hearing that there might be a new addition in his family," he added, all but confirming that the news could well be true.
Notably, with India having taken a lead of 28 runs in the first innings in Mumbai, Kiws are effectively 143 ahead with their scoreboard reading 173/9 in the second innings. With India 0-2 down and Rohit's performance himself not up to his standards in the home Test season so far, India would need their skipper to play a solid knock and steer the team to a win that would help them get crucial points on the WTC Table and save them from the embarassment of being whitewashed at home and give them a major boost heading into the five-match Test series in Australia.
