Indie sensation Sai Abhyankkar , known for his work on hits like ' Katchi Sera ' and ' Aasa Kooda ,' is stepping into the role of music director with
Benz , an upcoming film in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe ( LCU ). The film features Raghava Lawrence in the lead and is directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan .
Confirming the news, in an interview with
Cinema Express, Sai shared insights on how he landed this opportunity and his excitement about joining the LCU. Sai credited Santhosh Kumar, head of Think Music, and Magesh Rajendran from Think, for introducing him to the project. “Santhosh Kumar and Magesh Rajendran told me there is an amazing script they would like me to listen to. I love how a script turns into a film with all the beautiful background score and songs,” he told
Cinema Express.
Recalling his first encounter with the project, Sai said, “I then met director Bakkiyaraj Kannan at the Passion Studios office. I knew
Benz before I met Bakkiyaraj sir, whose filmography I am a big fan of. I saw its first-look poster about a year back. I imagined who would do its music, as it looked like a big project back then too. By God’s grace, it is me.”
The LCU has become known for its impactful music, featuring contributions from composers like Sam CS and Anirudh. Sai expressed his enthusiasm about joining the universe, noting, “It feels special to be part of LCU; there have only been two composers in it.” Interestingly, Sai wasn’t initially aware that
Benz would be part of the LCU. “When they told me the story, they did not tell me that it would be part of LCU. But suddenly they gave me that spark of the universe while I was listening to the script,” he revealed, adding that the film combines dark, commercial elements with humour and the unique LCU connection. “We are trying an international musical approach for it,” he explained.
Addressing any potential pressure associated with the LCU tag, Sai added, “I feel no pressure. I know that the scores for all the other LCU offerings are super hits. But I just want to keep my approach to the film original. I want to give this universe a new sound.”
