The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed Centre's plea challenging the Bombay High Court order that quashed a Look-Out-Circular (LOC) against late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's house help Samuel Miranda.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan dismissed the plea after no counsel appeared on behalf of Centre despite the matter being called out twice.

The court also dismissed the plea on merits of the case saying that the court found no reason to interfere with a well-reasoned order passed by the Bombay High Court.

This comes after the Supreme Court in October dismissed a petition filed by CBI and Maharashtra govt against the Bombay High Court's order quashing LOCs issued against actress Rhea Chakraborty and her family members including her brother Showik, her father (an army veteran) and her mother (an army school teacher) in the aftermath of the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

In 2020, Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his residence, after which an inquiry was initiated on his father's complaint against Samuel Miranda and others.

After this incident, the FIR was filed at Bihar's Patna.The investigation was however transferred to the CBI, which opened an LOC against Miranda.

The high court while quashing the LOC against Miranda had said that nothing was brought to its notice in the LOC, which reflected the 'reason' for issuing of LOC, except registration of an FIR and setting out the gist of the FIR.

The high court had also said that even the CBI did not place any subsequent request made by it for continuation of the LOC, after the expiry of one year.

The court further said that the CBI did not file any chargesheet or a closure report.The high court had also noted that Miranda joined the investigation and has cooperated with the same.
