The survey of 2,000 adults has revealed that two fifths have worn their PJs while performing everyday tasks such as , driving, and grocery shopping.

Other instances include taking the kids to school, walking the dog, and trips to the beach.

A third of Brits have even purchased pyjamas specifically for outdoor use, according to the recent poll.

Among those who own pyjamas, it seems that 18 to 24 year olds are spearheading the 'outdoor' trend, with three quarters admitting to wearing them in public.

The research was commissioned by sleepwear designer Peter Alexander. The brand's founder and creative director, Peter Alexander, commented: "The lines between the time we spend at work and the time we spend relaxing are blurring."

"This trend appears to extend to loungewear and everyday style. Wearing pyjamas outside is like bringing a slice of home wherever you go - cosy, carefree, and unapologetically yourself."

What type of pyjama wearer are you - are you more interested in style, comfort, cosiness or functionality?

The study found that a quarter of pyjama owners confess they'd happily wear them all the time if possible. While almost a third say there are occasions when they spend the entire day in their cherished sleepwear without changing.

For 28%, the first thing they do when they get home is swap their work clothes for their bedtime attire.

Over 65% of adults wear pyjamas, owning an average of four sets. Of those who own a pair, 32% consider donning a new set to be one of their favourite activities.

The allure of such attire lies in their comfort (69%), the sense of cosiness they offer (56%), and the relaxation they induce when worn (50%). Comfort, price, material, fit and style are non-negotiable and cotton is the most favoured material.

Interestingly, the survey revealed that 25% of those questioned and their families own matching pyjamas, while 31% have at least one Christmas-themed pair.

Peter Alexander chimed in: "Comfort isn't just for the night time, so pyjamas shouldn't be either. We are most relaxed and comfortable in our PJs, so why wouldn't you want those feelings all day long.

"There's joy in letting the outside see you at your most relaxed - comfort doesn't have to stay behind closed doors."
