Ekadashi is one of the most important days of the month and hence, it holds immense significance in Hinduism. A lot of people tend to fast on this day. Ekadashi fasting is observed on every 11th day of the Hindu calendar. There are two Ekadashi fasts in a month, one during Shukla Paksha and the other during Krishna Paksha. According to Drik Panchang, devotees of Lord Vishnu observe Ekadashi fast to receive the blessings of the Lord. The fast performed on Ekadashi lasts for three days. To make sure that there is no residue of food in the stomach the next day, devotees eat only in the afternoon a day before the fast. Devotees observe a strict fast on Ekadashi and end the fast only after sunrise the next day. It is important that one avoids eating all types of food during Ekadashi fasting.
