Mother Sita had performed Chhath Puja in Satyayug
According to mythology, Chhath Puja started from Satyayuga itself. According to beliefs, after 14 years of exile when Lord Shri Ram When he returned to Ayodhya, he consulted sages to absolve himself of the sin of killing Ravana. On the orders of the sages, Lord Shri Ram decided to perform Rajsuya Yagya. It is believed that at that time Rishi Mudgal purified Mother Sita by sprinkling Ganga water on her. Also asked Mother Sita to worship Sun God on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. As per the orders of Rishi Mudgal, Mother Sita worshiped Sun God for six days. This festival started being celebrated as Chhath Puja.
Pandavas found their lost kingdom

It is believed that during the Mahabharata period, Pandavas and Draupadi performed Chhath Puja to regain their lost honor, kingdom and glory. This is how Kaliyuga started
There is a different story to Chhath Puja in Kalyug. According to belief, Chhath festival started from a place called 'Dev' located in Gaya district of Bihar. Presently 'Dev' is in Aurangabad. According to belief, a person was suffering from leprosy. To get relief from this disease, he worshiped Sun God on the sixth day of Kartik month. After this worship the person got completely cured. Since then the celebration of Chhath festival started and people across the country and abroad celebrate it with full devotion.
