Strictly Come Dancing has announced a huge change to the show as it is set to bring back the much-loved Dance-A-Thon.

The news was revealed on spin-off show, It Takes Two, on Wednesday night and it will see the remaining Strictly couples take to the ballroom floor together to impress the judges with their best Samba moves in this series' Samba-Thon on Saturday November 23.

The Dance-A-Thon will see the couples, after they have performed their main dance in the show, return to the ballroom floor to Samba as a group before the judges eliminate couples one by one until the winner is crowned.

However, in a twist, couples will need to quickly impress the judges as their final position in the Samba-Thon will have an impact on the overall score for the night.

The first couple to be eliminated in the Samba-Thon will be awarded one point, with the second couple eliminated earning two points and so on. The winner will receive a whopping seven points, which will be added to their leaderboard position that is made up of the judges' scores from their main dance in the show that evening.

With each couple competing to win extra points, this means that the Samba-Thon could have a real impact on who stays and who leaves the competition.

The contestants taking part in the Samba-Thon will be revealed next week during the Sunday results show from the Blackpool Tower. The Samba-Thon will feature in the show on Saturday 23 November.

The Dance-A-Thon challenge first took place back in 2009, during the show's seventh series, and has made a comeback various times throughout the show's history. Strictly has revealed that its timely return for the special 20th anniversary series is a nod towards the world of professional Ballroom and Latin dancing.

It comes as Strictly professional Amy Dowden has said her heart is "breaking" after having to pull out of the rest of the dance competition due to a foot injury.

The Welsh dancer, 34, returned to competing in the BBC show for its 20th anniversary series after missing out last year due to undergoing cancer treatment.

Her celebrity partner, JLS star JB Gill, will now be paired with fellow pro Lauren Oakley, who stepped in to replace Amy on last weekend's show.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday night on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
