Meta has released a major feature for its social media platform Instagram. Now teenagers will not be able to do as they please on Instagram. Although the minimum age to use Instagram is 13 years, children use it by giving wrong information about their age.
Instagram will now use AI to catch this trickery of teenagers. The company has said that now children will not be able to hide their age. Instagram has been under scrutiny, especially for its impact on the mental health of teenagers, and Meta has responded to this by launching a new AI tool "Adult Classifier". The tool aims to verify the real age of users with more accuracy.
This tool uses AI to analyze users' online activities and other profile information to estimate their age. It takes into account factors such as who is following the users, what type of content they interact with, and even comments like friends' birthday posts.
If the classifier detects that users are under 18, it will automatically convert them to a “teen account.” These accounts have more stringent privacy settings, such as filters on who can message and what type of content they can view.
