New Delhi: Sanju Samson who was in and out of Team India for a long time and was constantly disappointed in the hope of opportunities now seems to be cementing his place. After the T20 World Cup many players were given a break from this format due to which Sanju is taking full advantage of the opportunity he has got.
After showing an amazing performance against Bangladesh Sanju has now made a great debut in South Africa as well. In the first match of the T20 series between India and South Africa Sanju played an amazing innings and scored a century. In this match being played in Durban Sanju also made many great records on the basis of his century.
Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadavs records in comparison:
Sanju Samson scored the second century of his T20 International career. In this way he became the fourth batsman of India to score more than one century in the T20 International. Before him Rohit Sharma (5) Suryakumar Yadav (4) and KL Rahul (2) have achieved this feat.
Sanju had also scored a century in his last T20 match against Bangladesh. In this way he became the first batsman from India and the fourth batsman in the world to score a century in 2 consecutive T20 Internationals.
The special thing is that Sanju completed this century in just 47 balls which is the fastest century by an Indian against South Africa. He broke the record of Suryakumar Yadav (55 balls).
Not only this Sanju has become the fourth Indian batsman to score a T20 century against South Africa. Before him Suresh Raina Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav had achieved this feat.
Sanju hit 10 sixes in his innings and thus equalled Rohit. Rohit had hit 10 sixes in his century innings against Sri Lanka in 2018 which is an Indian record.
Apart from this Sanju has hit 5 or more sixes in the second innings of a T20 International which is the most by any Indian wicketkeeper.
Sanju now holds the record of scoring the most centuries in T20 Internationals from any full-member team i.e. teams playing Test cricket. No wicketkeeper from any other full-member team has scored 2 centuries in this format.
Sanju now holds the Indian record for most runs in two consecutive T20 International innings. He scored a total of 2018 runs (107 111) breaking the record of Ruturaj Gaikwad (181).
