A new feature in UPI now allows users to make payments without needing a PIN or password on platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. This change is part of the UPI Lite service introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), with updated rules effective from November 1. This upgrade increases transaction limits, making small payments more convenient for users.

Key Features of UPI Lite

The UPI Lite wallet enables users to store up to Rs 2,000 and allows transactions of up to Rs 500 per transaction, specifically designed for small payments. Users can fund their UPI Lite wallet directly from their bank accounts, and once the wallet balance is used up, it can be recharged manually. Starting from November 1, NPCI also introduced an auto top-up option for the wallet, which automatically refills the wallet from the user’s bank account when the balance is low. However, UPI Lite has a cap of five top-ups per day, allowing a maximum of Rs 10,000 in top-ups.

How to Enable UPI Lite

Activating UPI Lite is simple on apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm. Open the app, go to your profile icon, and select the "PIN-free UPI Lite" option. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate the service, enabling quick and convenient payments without the need for a PIN.
