The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has announced a new policy to provide relief for electricity consumers struggling with bill payments. According to a recent order from Power Corporation Managing Director Pankaj Kumar, low-usage lifeline consumers will be permitted to pay a minimum of either 10% of their total outstanding bill or Rs 250, whichever is greater. For other categories, defaulters may deposit either 25% or Rs 1,000, whichever is higher.
Under the revised guidelines, power connections will no longer be disconnected solely due to partial payments. If a connection has been cut due to non-payment, it can be restored by paying at least 25% of the outstanding dues. Additionally, cash counters, online portals, and other payment agencies are now authorized to accept partial payments without needing additional approvals. Customers will also be able to make multiple partial payments within a month.
Each partial payment receipt will include a warning stating that the Electricity Distribution Corporation retains the right to disconnect service if bills remain unpaid. Consumers are encouraged to pay the remaining balance promptly to avoid disruptions.
Strict Warnings for Defaulting Consumers
Consumers who attempt to reconnect their power without partial payment may face legal action and additional penalties.
New Solar Initiative at Bus Station to Reduce Power Costs
In Raebareli, the Transport Corporation depot has been selected for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model project to install a 25 kW solar panel. This installation is expected to save approximately Rs 40,000 in monthly electricity costs, positively impacting the department’s budget. The solar setup will power essential areas within the depot, aligning with government goals for energy savings and environmental protection.
Officials estimate the solar panel system, which has a 20-year lifespan, will generate around 30,000 units of electricity annually. Local residents and environmental advocates have praised this initiative, highlighting its role in conserving energy within government institutions.
According to Regional Manager RK Tripathi, this project will help reduce the depot's carbon footprint and reflects the transport department’s commitment to environmental responsibility. It supports both economic savings and environmental sustainability, aligning with the government’s green energy initiatives.
