Winter preparations for Ram Lalla: Special attire and bhog
News Update November 10, 2024 03:24 PM

Mumbai: Ram Lallan refers to the childhood form of Lord Ram, especially in the context of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. The term ‘Ram Lalla’ literally translates to ‘Little Ram’ or ‘Baby Ram’ and is used to depict Lord Ram as a young child.

As winter sets in, the temperatures in Ramnagari are dropping, with fog blanketing the mornings and the nights becoming colder. This shift in weather has led to changes in the daily routine of Ram Lalla, who is seated in the Ram temple as a 5-year-old child.

Ram Lalla seated in his child form in Ayodhya, is being cared for with special attention, especially during the winter months. This marks the first winter after the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla on January 22, 2024. To protect Lord Ram from the cold, significant thought has gone into selecting his attire.

To shield Ram Lalla from the chill, several modifications have been made to his routine. To further adjust to the cold, coolers have been replaced with fans in the sanctum sanctorum during the day. As the weather continues to cool, more changes are expected to ensure Ram Lalla’s comfort.

Winter attire for Ram Lalla

During the winter, Ram Lalla will be dressed in woollen garments, including luxurious Pashmina shawls sourced from Ladakh. These shawls not only provide warmth but also maintain their lustre over time.

The woollen clothes are being crafted in Delhi, adorned with gold and silver threads, and will be transported to Ayodhya by flight.

Ram Lalla’s regal look

The garments designed for Ram Lalla by renowned designer Manish Tripathi will give him a royal appearance. According to the Ram Mandir Trust, his attire will be fit for a prince.

Additionally, woollen clothes are being prepared for Ram Lalla’s four brothers and Lord Hanuman for the Ram Darbar.

Special bhog: Change in offerings for Ram Lalla

As winter arrives, the bhog or offerings to Ram Lalla have been adjusted. After Devuthani Ekadashi, Ram Lalla will be wrapped in a quilt, and traditional offerings like curd have been replaced.

Instead, rabri, kheer, dry fruits, rotis, and puris made in pure desi ghee are now offered. The pashmina shawl, with its enduring shine and warmth, will also keep Ram Lalla cosy during the cold months without the need for soap-based cleaning.

With these thoughtful preparations, Ram Lalla is not only protected from the winter chill but also embraced with warmth and reverence.

As the Ram temple continues to uphold its rich traditions, these special measures reflect the deep devotion and care towards ensuring Ram Lalla’s comfort, even during the coldest days. This winter, the divine presence of Ram Lalla will shine brighter, surrounded by love, warmth, and meticulously chosen offerings, symbolising both devotion and the season’s blessings.
