Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty's purse was not stolen at an election rally in Jharkhand's Dhanbad, BJP has clarified. The party's star campaigner was in the Nirsa assembly constituency, just a few kilometres away from Jamtara, to support BJP candidate Aparna Sengupta when an organiser announced that his wallet was stolen.
"We request that whoever has stolen Mithun Da's wallet, please return it to him," the organiser announced during the rally. A video has also surfaced on social media that shows the organiser making the announcement in a packed stadium.

However, BJP has said that the wallet was misplaced and later found. "There was no such incident of pickpocketing. The purse was misplaced and later found," BJP's Dhanbad district president Ghanshyam Grover told PTI. TMC leader Riju Dutta took a dig at the BJP while sharing the video.
He wrote, "This is exactly what happens, when your colleagues, you surround yourself with are criminals!!" Mithun Chakraborty led a massive roadshow in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Monday. He campaigned for BJP candidate Meera Munda, the wife of former CM Arjun Munda, in the Potka constituency.
A criminal case has been filed against Chakraborty by the West Bengal police for his remarks during a speech on October 27. Kaushik Saha, a Salt Lake resident, has accused Chakraborty of inciting violence and communal hatred in his speech. The BJP leader has said that the "throne of West Bengal" would belong to the BJP after the 2026 Assembly elections, vowing to do whatever it takes to achieve this goal.
Chakraborty has been charged with provocation with intent to cause a riot, promoting enmity between groups, outraging religious feelings, and criminal intimidation, among other offences.
