Chennai Doctor Stabbed 7 Times By Patient's Son Over 'Incorrect Medicine Suspicion'

A doctor was stabbed seven times, including in his chest, at a government hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai by a 25-year-old man on Wednesday morning allegedly on suspicion of prescribing incorrect medication to his mother, a cancer patient.
The oncologist who is also a heart patient suffered injuries to his upper chest and was admitted to the ICU. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

How Did The Crime Take Place?
The incident took place in the OPD at Kalaignar Centenary Multy speciality government hospital in the city when the man posed as an employee of the hospital and attacked the doctor after suspecting that the doctor had prescribed the wrong medicine for his ailing mother, NDTV reported.
He reportedly attempted to escape after the crime, however, was caught and handed over to the Guindy Police Station.

CM Stalin Orders Inquiry
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian arrived at the hospital after the incident and said that the man committed the crime using a small knife hidden with him, however, denied any security lapses.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured that such attacks would not happen again.

“Doctor working at Kindi Kalyan Centenary Hospital Mr Shocking incident where Balaji was stabbed by a family member of the patient. The person involved in this atrocity was immediately arrested. Doctor Mr I have ordered Balaji to give them all the necessary treatment and to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident. The selfless work of our government doctors is immeasurable in providing appropriate treatment to the patients who seek government hospitals regardless of time. We must ensure their safety during this work. The government will take all measures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future" CM Stalin posted on X.
