Leh: The nation’s tallest airport, situated at Mudh-Nyoma in Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, would be finished by the end of the year, according to Brigadier Vishal Srivastava, Chief Engineer of Project Himank.

Brigadier Srivastava told a media report that the airstrip was built at 13,700 feet above sea level.

“The runway is about finished as of right now, and we are at the Mud Nyoma airstrip. We’re putting the final touches on, and we’ll be doing a joint inspection with the Air Force soon. By the end of this year, we plan to have the full Runway finished and be able to conduct a practice landing on it.The airfield was built at 13,700 feet above sea level. The heaviest military aircraft, including fighter, transport, fixed wing, and rotary wing aircraft, will be able to land on this runway. This will be very beneficial to us,” he remarked.

He said that Hanley, Loma, and Nyoma’s socioeconomic growth will be enhanced by the runway’s completion.

“During the hottest winter months, temperatures here may drop as low as minus 30 to minus 35 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the window of the working season that we have is only around five to six months long, from May to November,” he said.

The Brigadier also remembered that on August 23, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lay the foundation stone for this specific runway.

“This runway was built in a record amount of time. This will be India’s tallest runway. To guarantee that high-quality construction is completed and that speed does not degrade quality, we have used cutting-edge machinery, cold setting compounds, and a variety of additives,” Brigadier Srivastava said.

Following many rounds of political, diplomatic, and military discussions, India and China have agreed to retire from Depsang and Demchok in Eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control.
