A is ripping through a skyscraper roof in Manhattan, New York, with plumes of smoke being seen above the city.

The blaze is seen burning through a roof at the luxury The Set block of flats in the today. Firefighters raced to 10th Avenue and West 35th Street after the fire started in the just before 12pm local time.

Many people took to social media to share photos and videos of the the fire. X/ user @juanpitz said: "What is going on in Hudson Yards?"

New York-based reporter Jade Nash said: "A building in Hudson Yards is burning right now. Took these images from my bedroom and called 911. Prayers."

User @JohnBasham posted: "A large fire has erupted from the roof of a midtown Manhattan skyscraper filling the skies over New York City with thick smoke."

Photos and videos show thick black plumes of smoke rising from the building. Other images show the smoke spreading through the city with many from several miles away being able to see the blaze. The scale of the incident was laid bare in a video posted to X by user .

About 80 New York Fire Department (NYFD) firefighters reportedly responded to the blade. New York City council member Erik Bottcher said in an update shared to X/Twitter: "From Hudson Yards management: 'Earlier today a smoke condition occurred at 455 10th Avenue. The situation has been fully contained and there are no injuries. The FDNY has called an 'all clear' and is departing the scene.'"

But an FDNY spokesperson told The a firefighter had been injured. The spokesperson added: "44 Story 100x100 high rise multiple dwelling. 20 Units/78 Fire and EMS Personnel. Under control @ 1211 hrs. One FF (firefighter) with minor injuries. FDNY Fire Marshals will investigate cause and origin."

According to the rental , The Set "blurs the line between a five-star hotel and luxury residential experience." Rental studios at The Set go for $5,000 (£3,932).

The rooftop terrace of The Set includes a swimming pool, lounge space and dining area. Hudson Yards is known for having some of the most expensive properties in Manhattan were rent prices commonly go for several thousand dollars each month.
