Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Amir Khan has explained the reasons behind his retirement from the film industry and his quiet return.
In a recent interview with Hollywood reporter India, Amir Khan made some interesting revelations alongside his ex-wife Kiran Rao.
During the conversation Kiran Rao shared that Amir had decided to retire from the film industry a few years ago and had informed his family about it.
However both his children and she herself advised him against leaving the industry which led him to reconsider and quietly return to the film world.
Amir Khan spoke about the background of his decision saying that he had decided to retire in 2022 before his film Laal Singh Chadha because he was going through a lot in his personal life.
He explained that during the pandemic he realized that cinema and films had been the center of his attention for the past 18 years.
He had not been able to spend much time with his family including his children brother ex-wife Kiran Rao and Rina Dutta. He felt like he had not been there for his loved ones during all this time.
Amir Khan mentioned that he felt guilty for not giving enough time to his family which led to his decision to quietly retire from the film industry.
He added “I have made many films in my 35year career but now I want to spend time with my family. I am lucky to have realized this at this age. I couldn’t have taken these steps earlier but now at least I can”
He clarified that this decision was made during the shooting of Laal Singh Chadha when half of the film had been completed. He dismissed claims that he was leaving the industry due to the film’s failure.
Amir Khan shared that his son Junaid Khan after hearing about his decision asked him “Why do you want to go from one extreme to another in your life”
During the interview Amir Khan mentioned that his son advised him not to retire but instead to find a balance between his personal life and career.
Mr. Perfectionist said “I want the next 10 years of my life to be the most productive and meaningful and I want to support emerging artists”
