The Kannauj district horticulture department has recently launched a scheme that will help farmers in the region meet their irrigation needs. Under this scheme, farmers can avail 80 to 90 percent subsidy on drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, which will help them save water as well as increase productivity.

What is drip and sprinkler irrigation?

Drip irrigation: The main purpose of drip irrigation is to deliver water directly to the roots of the plants. In this system, water pipes and tubing are laid underground or close to the ground, with small holes in them through which water reaches the plants drop by drop. This method prevents wastage of water and provides water and nutrients to the plants as per their requirement.

Sprinkler irrigation: In sprinkler irrigation, water is delivered through pipes to special sprinklers that spread it like rain. This scheme is especially useful in large areas where water needs to be spread evenly. Sprinkler systems are buried at or below the ground surface and reduce water consumption as it reaches the crops directly without much evaporation.

Amount of grant and beneficiaries

Farmers will get the following subsidies under this scheme:

  • Small and marginal farmers: 90 percent subsidy on drip and myco sprinklers, 75 percent subsidy on raingun sprinklers.
  • Other Farmers: 80 percent subsidy on drip and myco sprinkler, 65 percent subsidy on raingun sprinkler.
Farmers are getting benefit from drip and sprinkler irrigation

Farmers who want to avail the benefits of this scheme can save both their hard work and money with the help of drip and sprinkler irrigation. This new technology can save water in your farm as well as increase the yield. If you buy a drip or sprinkler machine worth up to Rs 50 thousand, then you can easily irrigate one acre of farmland. If you invest a little more, then up to two acres can also be irrigated. In this way, you will not have to run here and there for water and your farm will also always remain moist.

Up to 80-90% subsidy will be available on drip and sprinkler

District Horticulture Officer CP Awasthi said that a new scheme has been started for farmers. Under this scheme, farmers can water their crops by installing drip and sprinkler systems. The government is giving 80 to 90 percent subsidy to farmers under this scheme. Drip and sprinkler provide the plants with as much  as they need, which saves water and the crop grows well. Farmers do not need to give too much water, which saves both water and fertilizer.

How to apply to avail the benefits of the scheme?

To avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers will have to apply directly in the district horticulture office. The process of getting grants under the scheme has been made simple and convenient, so that more and more farmers can avail the benefits.
