The BGT 2024/25 will get underway on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Team India had been training in the nets at the famous WACA ground in Perth in the last three days. On Friday, they took to the center pitch of the ground in an intra-squad match simulation in which the batsmen faced the bowlers in match-like situations.
KL Rahul opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal, an indication that he is likely to open in the Perth Test as well because captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in the first Test due to personal reasons; Rohit is still in India and has not yet flown to Australia. It is reported that Rohit and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, are expecting their second child in the coming week, and hence Sharma decided to stay, meaning that he is all but certain to miss the Perth Test.

Rahul was given the middle-order role last year and did well in it. But he was dropped after the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru for Sarfaraz Khan. Rahul could make his comeback to the XI in the opening position once again, a role in which he has plenty of experience in away conditions.
Rahul opened the innings in the match simulation at the bouncy WACA in Perth. He batted well, riding the bounce and pace fluently, and seemed in good touch. He scored 29 runs and showed signs that he is ready to open once again for India in Tests.

The opener grimaced in pain as a medical staff member attended him. Rahul then walked off to leave the field.
Meanwhile, other India batsmen remained apprehensive against the bounce at the WACA, several of them edging behind. Jaiswal and Virat Kohli scored 15 runs each after hitting boundaries early in their innings. Shubman Gill looked the most settled of the Indian batsmen, scoring 28 runs before edging Navdeep Saini to gully.
Rishabh Pant hopped and struggled against the short balls and also took a blow to his groin. He was bowled by medium pacer Nitish Kumar Reddy, who also dismissed Dhruv Jurel.
