At the start of the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards, singer Ela Taubert , nominated for Best New Artist, surprised fans by performing a bilingual version of her hit “¿Cómo Pasó?” alongside Joe Jonas . The duo looked like rock stars on stage, dressed in matching black, silver-studded outfits as they sang the song in both English and Spanish, delivering powerful vocals that captivated the audience at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

The pair’s performance was previously announced, but fans were thrilled to hear them perform a new rendition of Taubert’s single, which has become a favorite and peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart. Taubert, a Colombian artist, has quickly gained popularity, especially after her recent EP release. She's now competing for Best New Artist against other emerging names like Agris, Kevin Aguilar, Darumas, Nicolle Horbath, and Latin Mafia.

The Latin Grammy Awards, celebrating their 25th anniversary, feature a diverse lineup of performers. Scheduled acts include Alejandro Fernández, Becky G , Jon Bon Jovi, Kali Uchis, and Residente. This year, Edgar Barrera, a prominent songwriter and producer, leads the list of nominees with nine nominations, while global stars Karol G and Bad Bunny each received eight.

Later in the evening, Ángela Aguilar and Becky G performed their hit “Por El Contrario,” a track nominated for Best Regional Mexican Song. They were joined by Ángela’s brother, Leonardo Aguilar, and songwriter Edgar Barrera, who had already won Songwriter and Producer of the Year earlier that night. The performers, dressed in elegant red gowns, sang with an eight-piece mariachi band on a stage lit in minimal red, creating a dramatic scene reminiscent of a Caravaggio painting. This song competes against other well-known tracks from artists like Los Tigres Del Norte, Grupo Firme, and La Energía Norteña.

In addition to the excitement of the performances, top nominees Karol G, Camilo, Kany García, Juan Luis Guerra, Shakira, and Carín León are in the running for Album of the Year. Ángela Aguilar’s album *Bolero,* produced by her father Pepe Aguilar, is also nominated. Reflecting on her work, Ángela previously shared that these songs were a vocal challenge due to the complex harmonies and intricate runs, which made the singing experience meaningful.

Ángela and Becky G have performed at the Latin Grammys in past years, though neither has won an award yet. As the Latin Grammys aired live from Miami on Univision and ViX, fans could look forward to a night of standout performances from celebrated Latin artists and promising new talent.
