Samosas have their roots in the ancient Iranian Empire. It was earlier known by the Persian word Sambusag, and from here it came to be called Samosa. For the first time, 11th century Iranian historian Abul Fazal Baihaqi mentioned it in his book Tarikh-e-Baihaki. He described a salty dish served in the royal court of the Ghaznavid Empire, which was filled with meat and dry fruits.

How did samosa come to India?

Samosa came to India with traders and Muslim invaders from Central Asia in the 13th and 14th centuries. Then it was baked on fire and stuffed with meat. At that time, it neither contained potatoes nor was it deep fried.
