UPPCS Exam: Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has decided to conduct the PCS Preliminary Examination 2024 on a single day.

Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has decided to conduct the upcoming PCS (Preliminary) Examination 2024 on a single day. This decision has brought relief to lakhs of students appearing for competitive exams. However, the commission has constituted a committee for the RO-ARO exam. The decision will be taken after its report comes. In this article, we are going to tell you why the candidates are demanding a single-day exam, and what are its benefits. Let us know about it in detail.

Benefits of One Day-One Shift Exam

The protesting candidates who wish to get a government job through UPPSC are demanding a "One Day-One Shift". If the exam is conducted through this, then the exam will be held on one day instead of being held on different days. This will not separate the question papers. Also, there is little chance of one set being more difficult than the other.

Uniform question paper and difficulty level

The biggest advantage of conducting the exam in one day-one shift is that all students will get the same question paper. When the exam is held in different shifts, there is a possibility of variation in the difficulty level of question papers of different sets. This creates the problem that the question paper of one shift may be more difficult or easier than the other, raising questions about fairness. If all students get the same set of question papers, it ensures that equal opportunities will be available to all candidates.

Opposition to the normalization process

Students are opposing the normalization system, which was implemented by the Commission. Under normalization, the score of each candidate is determined by comparing them with other candidates based on their performance. Students believe that this process affects transparency and can become a strategy to exclude deserving candidates. Having a one-day-one shift exam eliminates the need for normalization, as all students will be evaluated equally.

Number and access of exam centers

Students are also demanding that the number of exam centers be increased so that exams can be conducted in all districts. Currently, exam centers have been set up in only 41 districts, while there are 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh. If the exam is held on a single day and shift, it can be managed more effectively and more students can be included.

Corruption and transparency issues

Students are also accusing the commission of corruption. Earlier also some officials of the commission were arrested in paper leak cases. Therefore, they want the examination process to be completely transparent so that any kind of rigging or irregularity can be avoided. One day-one shift exam will promote this transparency.

Reducing mental stress

Taking exams in different shifts can increase mental pressure on students as they worry about their performance whether their paper was difficult or easy. If all students take the exam at the same time, it will reduce stress and they will be able to focus on their preparation. For all these reasons, students are demanding to conduct the exams in one day shift. This will give them fairness, transparency, and equal opportunities.
