New Delhi: Indias 2012 U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand is set to go under the hammer in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction which will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. Chand is among 574 players that have been shortlisted to go under the hammer. Chand will aim to land his first IPL contract since 2016 when he last played for Mumbai Indians (MI). He was part of their title-winning campaign in 2015 and has previously represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) from 2011 to 2013 as well as Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2014 season. Chand has featured in 21 IPL matches scoring 300 runs at an average of 15.00 with a strike rate of 100. Chand has registered for the 2025 IPL Mega Auction as a United States of America (USA) player meaning he will be considered an overseas player and must be selected within one of the eight overseas slots available to teams. The 32-year-old is set to be auctioned in the 6th Uncapped Wicket-Keeper list. In August 2021 Unmukt Chand announced his retirement from Indian cricket and made the decision to relocate to the USA where he chose to pursue a career as a local player in the American cricket system. This move made him ineligible to represent India in international cricket and meant he would no longer be considered an Indian player in the IPL roster. Instead Chand aimed to play for the American national team marking a new chapter in his cricketing journey. Since 2021 Unmukt Chand has been playing in the Minor League Cricket for the Silicon Valley Strikers. Additionally he has been a part of the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) since the inaugural season of Major League Cricket in 2023 further establishing his presence in the growing American cricketing landscape. Unmukt Chand has been eligible to play for the USA national cricket team since last year but has yet to receive a call-up. He missed out on a spot in their 2024 T20 World Cup squad which featured several Indian-born players including skipper Monak Patel Saurabh Netravalkar Harmeet Singh and Milind Kumar. Netravalkar who was one of the standout performers in the previous years mega event will not be part of the IPL 2025 auction.
