After the incident, the family members kept wandering from door to door in search of their children, but could not find anything. The crying family members kept begging to see the faces of their children, but no one listened. Meanwhile, a family member says that their child was born on November 9, he was admitted in the hospital, but suddenly a fire broke out and now there is no trace of him. Similarly, a mother who has lost her child cries and says – 'These people set my child on fire…'

fire in oxygen concentrator

On the incident, Jhansi Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Sachin Mahor said that 54 children were admitted in the NICU ward of the medical college. Suddenly the oxygen concentrator caught fire. An attempt was made to extinguish the fire but within 15 minutes the fire spread so much that it was out of control and the fire spread immediately. It is being told that there are two wards in the NICU of the Medical College. There was a critical care unit inside, this is where most of the children died. While all the children from the outer ward were saved, the children present in the inner ward became victims of the fire. It is being told that there was only one way for entry and exit of both the wards, which was filled with smoke and hence rescue could not be done.

Know how such a big accident happened?

It is being told that fire alarm systems were installed in the medical college, but their maintenance was not done. This did not raise the alarm. If the alarms had been correct, more children could have been saved. Eyewitness Kripal Singh said that the cylinders kept in the ward for fire safety were empty. Eyewitnesses say that a nurse came and told that there was a fire in a child ward, after which we reached there. There were only three nurses there and no doctor. That's why there were more deaths.

Safety audit was done in February

The fire at the Medical College also points towards great negligence, because a fire safety audit was conducted here in February itself. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said that a fire safety audit was conducted in February. Mock drill was also held in June. How and why this accident happened can be said only after the investigation report comes. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued orders to the administration to provide financial help to the affected families. Immediate assistance of Rs 5 lakh each will be provided to the family members of the deceased Naunihal and Rs 50 thousand each will be provided to the seriously injured.
