Who doesn't like the chirping of birds? When they chirp among themselves, the surrounding area becomes buzzing, but these voiceless people also face problems. Their health also deteriorates. They also feel cold and heat. They also get worried during the rains. The environment also affects them. But in this fast-paced world, the number of people who take care of these birds can be counted on one hand. NIT Club in Patna takes care of these birds.
The name of this club is Science and Environmental Club. The in-charge of this club is Faculty Professor Anurag Sahay of NIT Patna. Professor Sahay says, the purpose of starting this club is to fulfill our responsibility towards the society and environment. Vikram Patil, a member of this club, says that our focus is mainly on saving the sparrow. Because sparrow is in the category of rapidly disappearing birds.
Earlier sparrows were seen in large numbers, but now sparrows are rarely seen. However, apart from this we take initiative to save heron, vulture and parrot. In summer, when all these animals and birds are in distress, the club members rescue them. Vikram says, to preserve the sparrows, nests have been installed at many places by the club. From time to time, a special meeting is called by the club, in which all the members of the club are given information about rescue related topics.
Apart from this, we also show documentaries in collaboration with the club members. Vikram says, during the summer season, many birds around and inside our institute had fallen unconscious due to dehydration. Our club members used to bring those birds. We take initiative to save those birds. The biggest thing is that if a bird is rescued, many things have to be taken care of. Like we cannot catch any bird with our straight hands.
Till now we have rescued more than 35 big birds. The number of small birds is much more than that. These include Heron, Black Kites, Eagle, Parrot, Pigeon. However, Vikram also tells that after the rescue, we inform the forest department. After that the forest department team comes and takes away these birds. We try our best to provide immediate benefit to the birds by rescuing them as quickly as possible.
Nests for birds are also installed by this club. In the Patna campus of National Institute of Technology itself, a large number of nests have been planted by this club in the entire campus. The only objective is to provide a safe place for these birds to live. The members of this club not only plant these nests but also take special care of their maintenance. Special care is taken to ensure that the birds do not face any kind of problem in living there.
Members of this group and students of NIT Patna tell that this group was started in the year 2022. He tells that a club was formed in NIT Patna. Since National Institute of Technology, Patna also has clubs for various activities, in which students and faculty also participate. Also, if people from outside also want to become its members, they can join that group.
This club works for social welfare. The members of this club are B.Tech students. Who have joined it as volunteers. However, before joining this club, an introduction is also conducted in which an interview is conducted. After being successful in that, one gets entry into the club. Vikram tells that when the senior members of this club finish their classes and pass out, they leave the club.
After that new members get a chance in the club. However, many old members are still associated with this club. About 100 people join this club every year. That means at least 100 people live in this club at a time. Vikram says, being students of National Institute of Technology, we also impose some rules on us. We mostly take the initiative to save birds by going to the areas around our institute and rescuing them.
Anurag Sahayak, professor in-charge of the club, says that this club has not only taken the initiative to save birds. Rather, he is also fulfilling his responsibilities regarding the environment. Apart from this campus, more than 500 saplings have been planted at other places. Apart from this, a large number of trees have been planted through this club in the new campus of NIT Patna which has been constructed in Bihta.
