Elderly Woman Dies, 22 Injured, and Over 200 Residents Rescued in Ahmedabad Residential Building Fire

Ahmedabad: A 65-year-old woman died and 22 others were hospitalised after a fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in Ahmedabad's Bopal locality. According to police, the fire incident occurred around 10:40 pm on Friday on the 8th floor of the 21-storey Iskon Platina building.As per a PTI report, an official from Bopal police station said, 'The fire soon spread to the 21st floor of the high-rise, leaving one woman dead and 22 others injured,' as quoted by PTI. According to Chief Fire Officer Mithun Mistry, more than 200 residents were evacuated from the building, and a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.A fire official said that a short-circuit in the electric duct on the 8th floor of the building appeared to be the cause of the fire, though the exact cause was still being determined. The PTI report added that the injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the elderly woman, identified as Milaben Shah, died. Officials also said that the firefighting operation continued until 3:40 am on Saturday.(With Inputs from PTI)In a separate incident in UP's Jhansi, At least 10 children died in a fire that engulfed the children's ward of a medical college in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district and 16 others injured are battling for life. Fire broke out at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College of Jhansi on Friday night. The state-run medical college started services in 1968 and is one of the largest government hospitals in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
