450 grams gram flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
salt as required
1 cup mustard oil
80 ml refined oil
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 1/2 tbsp thymol seeds
water as required
Step 1
Mix together gram flour, baking soda, red chili powder, thymol seeds and salt in a large bowl.
Step 2
Next, add oil to the gram flour mixture and mix it well. With this the gram flour mixture will become like flour. Now take a small portion of this mixture and make thick balls from it.

Knead the gram flour mixture with the help of some water. Add some oil on the gram flour flour and knead it again for some time. Cover the dough with a wet cloth and keep it aside for 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 4
After this, place a pan on high flame and heat oil in it to fry the gathiya.
Step 5
Place half the dough in the gathiya maker and press to make gathiya in the pan. Let them fry in oil.
Step 6
Keep the flame medium and fry them till they turn light golden.
Step 7
Remove excess oil. Break these fried long strings into small pieces.
Step 8
Let them cool, and store them in an airtight container. Enjoy!
