Manipur: Women sellers in Manipur have protested in the streets as the situation worsens and tensions in the state, which has been plagued by violence since May of last year when three deaths were found and six others were allegedly abducted, continue to rise. It’s unclear, however, whether the corpses are those of the missing.

Security personnel carried out area domination and search operations in the hill and valley regions’ most susceptible locations earlier in the day. Additionally, the police made sure that cars moved safely. 16 cars transporting necessities have been guaranteed to go via NH-2. To guarantee the free and secure transit of the vehicles, security convoys are provided in critical areas, and strict security measures are implemented at all susceptible sites,” the police said in a tweet.

Furthermore, in order to stop any infractions, 106 checkpoints were established across Manipur’s districts, both in the hills and the valleys, according to police authorities. In all districts, no one was taken into custody by the police in relation to any infractions.

More search operations were conducted by the police on Friday as part of their ongoing efforts. “In the periphery and susceptible regions of the hill and valley districts, security personnel carried out search operations and area dominance. It has been guaranteed that 06 cars carrying necessary goods would go via NH-2. To guarantee the trucks’ secure and unhindered travel, security convoys are stationed in crucial areas and strict security measures are implemented in all susceptible areas.

In order to maintain law and order, the police also established 108 checkpoints across several areas.

In the meantime, in order to address the security forces’ well-coordinated operation in the state plagued by ethnic violence and to maintain the security situation, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in six police stations across five districts of Manipur with immediate effect until March 31, 2025.

The territories governed by the Sekmai, Lamsang, Lamlai, Jiribam, Leimakhong, and Moirang Police Stations in the five districts of Manipur (Imphal West, Imphal East, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, and Bishnupur) would be subject to the AFSPA. Following a thorough assessment of Manipur’s security situation and discussions with important stakeholders, this decision was made.
