Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, declared on Saturday that parents of the babies who perished in the fire at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College Hospital in Jhansi will get Rs five lakh apiece.
The families of the wounded would also get Rs 50,000 apiece from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, according to the Uttar Pradesh government.
Additionally, the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Jhansi have been instructed by CM Yogi Adityanath to provide a report on the occurrence within 12 hours.
Ten infants perished in the fire, which is thought to have begun as a result of an oxygen concentrator short circuit and spread quickly because of the NICU’s very oxygenated atmosphere.
On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that three of the 10 infants will be identified via DNA testing, if necessary.
Several more babies were burned in the event, and seven of the dead have been identified.
“Ten newborns have died, seven have been identified, and three are still unidentified,” Deputy Chief Minister Pathak told reporters. DNA testing will be done if necessary.
Droupadi Murmu, the president, also sent her sympathies, calling the event “heartbreaking.” She said in a post on X, “It is quite tragic to learn that many newborns died in the tragedy at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. May God provide the families and grieving parents the fortitude to endure this terrible blow. I offer my prayers for the damaged infants’ quick recovery.
Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, attacked the state administration, claiming that it was exhibiting “negligence” in medical management.
“The news of 10 children dying and many children being injured due to the fire in Jhansi Medical College is extremely sad and worrying,” Akhilesh Yadav said on his social media profile on X. My deepest sympathies to everybody.
“A fire in the ‘oxygen concentrator’ is allegedly the cause of the fire. This is a clear example of either a subpar oxygen concentrator or medical management and administration gone wrong. Everyone involved in this situation should face consequences. “The chief minister should focus on the poor state of health and medical facilities instead of the election campaign and false claims that everything is fine,” the tweet said.
