James Martin was quick to clash with his guests over a key ingredient as he claimed the dish would be "ruined" without it. During today's (November 16) episode of the ITV hit show, James was joined by sports presenter Jake Humphrey as well as chefs Tony Tobin and Shivi Ramoutar, and cocktails from mixologist Merlin Griffiths.
However it was one segment that James was particularly passionate about as he demonstrated how to cook to perfect roast dinner.
On hand to help was Tony as they tackled the Yorkshire puddings first. James revealed that they would be following his grandmother's recipe.
Moving onto the meat, James explained that he likes to cook his beef with garlic and onions so he can use the remaining oil for his gravy.
Tony was quick to ask: "Why do people cook a big joint on veg because the veg goes black. Does the flavour go onto the meat then?"
The TV chef insisted that the dish wouldn't be complete without the onion gravy but was quick to point out that it is 'controversial'. He explained: "Now this is where it gets controversial. You've got to have onion gravy."
Tony jumped in and said: "Well it's debatable." James was not impressed as he replied: "Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was intended in Yorkshire, you put onions in the gravy, it's as simple as that."
He fumed: "You lot have just ruined it by coming down South. Don't get me on my high horse."
Dishing up the meal for his guest, James warned: "Now don't go and ruin this. Do not go and ruin this. Do not reach for horseradish."
Everyone gasped as James continued: "Horseradish should be banned because it's the food of the devil." Shivi asked: "Why not horse radish." James shouted: "I've just sweated and worked so hard then you want to go and cover it up with some rancid white stuff that tastes disgusting. It's vile."
Jake jumped in and said: "Never get into a debate about Sunday roast with James Martin."
Shivi pointed out: "So no greens? No need for anything green." James gasped as he said: "Greens, greens, greens? Next she will be saying we can do this in the air fryer, what are you doing? Greens."
James Martin's Saturday Morning airs at 9:30am on ITV1 and ITVX.
