Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: The Indian Railways is reportedly planning to introduce Vande Bharat sleeper trains to gradually replace the aging Rajdhani Express-- the staple and flag-bearer of sleeper trains in the country-- in a phased manner. The cutting-edge Vande Bharat sleepr trains offer several advanced features compare to the Rajdhani Express such as enhanced speed and comfort apart from modern safety features which are lacking in the Rajdhani.
But is the Vande Bharat sleeper train better than the Rajdhani Express the flagship of premium train travel in India? Lets find out.
Vande Bharat sleeper: More comfort
The Vande Bharat sleeper train features enhanced berths with better cushioning providing more comfortable sleep to overnight travelers. The berths have a modern design featuring ladders for easy access to upper and middle berths on the train.
According to Indian Railways the Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed to deliver a smooth jerk-free experience to commuters. The train has bio-vacuum toilets featuring touch-free fittings and even a shower cubicle in the AC first class coach.
The train features automatic entry and exit doors apart from automatic interconnecting doors between coaches for enhanced passenger convenience.
Additionally the Vande Bharat sleeper has fully sealed gangways helping to maintain a dust-free environment while ensuring more efficient air conditioning throughout the coach.
Vande Bharat sleeper train: Safety features
The Vande Bharat sleeper has enhanced safety features compared to the Rajdhani Express. The side walls roof end walls floor sheets and cab of Vande Bharat sleeper trains are constructed out of austenitic steel making it much more durable than the Rajdhani.
The train also features advanced crash protection measures with crash buffers and deformation tubes installed apart from enhanced fire safety which meets the EN 45545 HL3 69 standards. The fire safety measures are boosted by a fire barrier wall added protection in case of a fire on board. The Vande Bharats fire safety are reportedly much more advanced than the Rajdhani trains.
Vande Bharat sleeper train: Speed
The Vande Bharat sleeper train has an operational speed of 160 kmph making it faster than the Rajdhani and the Shatabdi Express and thus making the journey times shorter.
The Vande Bharat sleeper is a self-propelled train meaning it doesn’t need a locomotive and features driver cabins at both ends reducing turnaround time at stations.
About Vande Bharat sleeper train
Manufactured at a cost of Rs 120 crore between the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and BEML the each Vande Bharat sleeper train set will have 16 coaches which the railways plans to increase to 24 in the near future officials said adding that there are 67 sleeper berths in one train set.
The Vande Bharat sleeper train has a capacity of 823 passengers and all 16 coaches are air-conditioned they said.
