At least three people were injured after a small plane crashed in Pomona, ahead of the 2024 National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Final event, on Sunday. The crash took place at around 11 AM local time near the 2700 block of Fairplex Drive which is adjacent to the end of the runway of the Dragstrip, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. "The airplane struck several vehicles on the ground, but no bystanders were struck or injured," a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. It's unclear what caused the plane to crash. Several firefighters were at the scene.
The aircraft was reportedly on final approach to Brackett Airport, which is across from the dragstrip, when it crashed into a maintenance trailer and other cars. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were expected to investigate the matter. The races have been paused temporarily, NHRA said on X, formerly Twitter."We are investigating an apparent small plane crash near the dragstrip in Pomona while it was apparently attempting to land at nearby Brackett Field Airport on Sunday," said a statement from NHRA. "Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident."
This is a developing story.
