Iran kills sixty people due to a chlorine gas leak

November 18, Tehran According to the official news agency IRNA, a chlorine gas leak in the Iranian province of Isfahan in the country’s center poisoned 60 people.

A semi-trailer vehicle carrying chlorine gas cylinders was reported to have toppled on an interstate route in Shahreza County, 80 kilometers south of the province capital Isfahan, on Sunday around 13:40 local time, according to the Xinhua news agency.

According to a remark from Mansour Shishehforoush, director general of the provincial crisis management department, emergency crews were sent to the location right away after the accident.

According to Shishehforoush, 60 persons in the surrounding regions had lung toxicity as a result of the chlorine gas leak from one of the cylinders and were taken right away to medical facilities.

“Teams from the Red Crescent Society, traffic police, law enforcement agencies, and the provincial crisis management department have restored safety in the area, allowing the road where the incident took place to reopen,” he said.
