Telangana: According to authorities on Monday, a staff member at a government medical college in the Khammam region of Telangana was charged with bringing a student to a barbershop and having his head tonsured.
Authorities claim that a first-year student at Khammam Government Medical College arrived to the institution sporting a “Chinese-style” hairstyle. The first-year student was first warned by several seniors in the institute’s dorm that his hairdo was inappropriate for a medical college student and that he should get it cut.
After learning of the occurrence, the student was taken to a salon to have his head tonsured by an assistant professor who also serves as the officer of the Boys’ Hostel Anti-Ragging Committee.
Due to the negative publicity surrounding the November 12 event, college authorities decided to remove the associate professor of his dormitory responsibilities. The Director of Medical Education has also been made aware of the situation.
Police said that a complaint has been filed under the Ragging Act, SC/ST, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
