Washington: According to the New York Times on Sunday, US President Joe Biden has given Ukraine permission to employ long-range missiles to strike the deepest region of Russia.

According to US sources cited by the New York Times, the missiles might be deployed to protect Ukrainian soldiers against North Korean and Russian attacks in the Kursk area of western Russia.

This occurs as Donald Trump, the president-elect, prepares to take office. Trump has called for an end to the conflict in previous remarks.

The Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, are long-range missiles that Ukraine will be permitted to utilize, according to the authorities, the New York Times said.

According to individuals who spoke to the New York Times, Biden’s move follows Russia’s unexpected decision to include North Korean forces in the conflict.

Although he has not acknowledged the authorization to strike, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that the quantity of missiles used to attack the Russians would be more significant than the removal of limits.

In his evening speech, Zelensky said, “A lot of the media are discussing today that we have been given permission to take the necessary actions.” However, words are not used to deliver blows. These things aren’t publicized. The missiles will do the talking.

According to Anadolu, Zelenskyy had already voiced hope that Trump’s administration may hasten the end of the continuing conflict with Russia.

In an interview with public station Suspilne, Zelenskyy made the comments while reflecting on US-Ukraine ties and previous conversations with Trump over the war, which started in 2022.

“We are an independent country,” Zelenskyy said in response to a question about whether Trump had pushed Ukraine to engage in talks with Russia. The fact that our people and I are negotiating with the United States, Trump, Biden, and European leaders during this conflict has shown that the “sit and listen” approach is ineffective for us.

In the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump defeated Democratic opponent Kamala Harris with 295 electoral votes, earning him a second term as president of the United States. President-elect Donald Trump has acted quickly after winning to assemble his national security and foreign policy staff in preparation for his official inauguration in January 2025.
