Pakistan: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has urged the government to start a conversation with pertinent parties in order to address important concerns, such as the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Balochistan.

He emphasized the urgent need to update policies to protect lives in the unstable areas while addressing the media on Sunday at the JI’s Islamabad headquarters. “Everyone’s life is valuable. He said, “The administration must review its policies.

Rehman also urged the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan to take responsibility and make sure that Afghan land isn’t exploited against Pakistan or other countries. He emphasized the need of cooperation and called on the Pakistani administration to have discussions with Afghanistan in order to address shared issues.

The JI head blasted the government for not fulfilling its pledges to provide economic assistance, especially in view of the crisis in power prices.

Rehman said that agreements made with the JI during sit-ins earlier this year had not been carried out by the federal government. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent winter electrical assistance package was deemed insufficient by him, who called it “a joke” and a “deception for the public.”

At an event honoring Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced an electricity relief package that would lower prices for domestic consumers by up to PKR 26.7 per unit, for industrial users by PKR 15.5 per unit, and for commercial users by PKR 22.71 per unit during the winter.

Rehman, however, questioned the package’s viability and applicability. Why would somebody need five hundred units? “This drama of deceiving the public must end,” he added, adding that residents are still burdened by a gasoline fee of PKR 60 per liter.

Rehman recommended promoting solar energy as a workable approach, pointing to its advantages for the environment and economy. He reaffirmed the JI’s commitment to promoting workable, long-term solutions to Pakistan’s economic and security issues.
