After suffering a shoulder injury, Australia’s left-arm spinner Ashton Agar was seen batting with one hand during a Sheffield Shield match. He batted at No. 11 with his side, Western Australia, at 310/9. After sustaining an Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint injury to his left shoulder, which also serves as his bowling arm, he was having trouble holding the bat with his bottom hand.
Agar played a forward defense against Todd Murphy, got struck in the hip, and even dodged a bouncer. Although his valiant attempt came to an end later, he took care to always keep his damaged arm protected.
Agar showed incredible perseverance and contributed 15 more runs to the total with centurion Joel Curtis in spite of the limited mobility.
Due to the injury, Agar was unable to get his bat down in time and was finally bowled by Sam Elliott.
Victoria was given the pitiful goal of 120. Western Australia had a slim opportunity as off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, who was in form during Australia A’s practice matches against India A, cut the pursuing squad to 19/2.
Victoria captain Peter Handscomb (56*) and Marcus Harris (56*), who both struck half-centuries against India A, hammered down the target in the 24th over without taking any more wickets.
With 20 points after four games, Western Australia is in a respectable second in the Sheffield Shield points standings. With 20.1 points from the same amount of games, Victoria is ranked first.
The next match between Western Australia and South Australia is scheduled for Saturday, November 23 at Adelaide. Victoria will take against Queensland at the Gabba starting on Sunday, November 24.
Agar’s shoulder issue may prevent him from playing in the next match against South Australia, despite the fact that he has already claimed four wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 1.5 in two games.
