Rajasthan Royals (RR) are one of two teams alongside Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who have retained the maximum quota of six players and have no Right to Match (RTM) card to use at the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction. The Royals retained a strong core of young players, as Sanju Samson will continue to lead the franchise while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel will also stay. Shimron Hetmyer is the only overseas retention. Veteran pacer Sandeep Sharma has also inked a new deal with the franchise under the uncapped quota. This has left RR with the lowest purse in the room, as they will have just Rs. 41 crore to spend at the auction. With their retentions, RR have shown their admiration for their old squad and the desire to get the core back, but they will lose out on some star players. Jos Buttler, who has been a pillar of their batting unit since 2018, is unlikely to return as the Royals' will find it tough to meet his asking price with the England captain set to trigger a bidding war. Yuzvendra Chahal, who became RR's highest wicket-taker within three seasons of joining, will also come under the hammer in the marquee set, and it will be a surprise if RR can outbid all 10 teams. Similarly, Ravichandran Ashwin will generate interest from the franchise, but auction dynamics will decide his fate. While the Royals have their batting unit settled, they need to build a bowling unit from scratch apart from Sandeep Sharma. A top-quality overseas pacer will be a priority, and Trent Boult is a former player that could return. Nandre Burger impressed last season, and it will be no surprise if the Royals decide to bid for him again. Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood could also be on RR's wishlist.A premium Indian pacer will also be on RR's radar, but the likes of Arshdeep, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami could prove expensive, and all three can be RTMed by their former teams. This opens up a chance for Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan to return to the team. At the moment, the team lacks all-rounders, and an overseas option could fill the dual role of a pacer and lower-order batter. Sam Curran, Marco Jansen, and Gerald Coetzee will fit in perfectly with RR's needs. Similarly, RR will eye a top Indian spin-bowling all-rounder with Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, Tanush Kotian, Sai Kishore, and Manav Suthar among the top names. If RR misses out on Chahal, Piyush Chawla or Rahul Chahar could be on their radar, as well as some overseas names such as Adam Zampa, Wanindu Hasaranga, Adil Rashid, Noor Ahmed, Allah Ghazanfar, or Mujeeb-ur Rahman.
