Director Prakash Jha would gladly step away from his position behind the camera and take on a challenging role. For instance, his most recent short film, Amar Aaj Marega, was chosen for the 55th International Film Festival of India’s Indian Panorama section (IFFI). On November 24, the Rajat K-directed project will make its debut at the Goan festival.

Why did Jha take the lead on the project? He brings up the peculiar tale of a 62-year-old widower who believes he has lived life to the fullest and intends to take his own life. It’s an oddball film. Following a brief celebration with a close friend [Saurabh Sachdeva], Amar has made the decision to take his own life. The buddy becomes frightened and begins phoning folks home when he finds out about his scheme. After that, they all gather and choose whether or not Amar should pass away, even debating how to do it,” Jha recounts.

The National Award-winning filmmaker, who starred in Saand Ki Aankh (2019) and Matto Ki Saikil (2022), is no stranger to acting. He enjoys realizing the vision of another filmmaker. “I felt it was a wonderful idea when Rajat came up to me. Since he is a novice director, the film that is being shown at IFFI is beneficial to him. I like supporting new filmmakers. Filmmakers with no experience are the greatest. Mohammed Gani, a debutante, created a stunning film even in Matto Ki Saikil.

Jha claims that despite his hectic schedule with Aashram’s fourth season, he would always find time to act. There is just one requirement: the role must improve the plot. “If I accept a position, it must be crucial. If not, I’m contacted for a lot of positions, including police work. However, I don’t require acting as a career; I just do it because I enjoy it. “Writing and directing will continue,” he says.
