During his concert in Ahmedabad on Sunday as part of his “Dil-Luminati India Tour,” Punjabi musician and actor Diljit Dosanjh made a strong statement and promised to cease writing songs about alcohol if the government imposes a statewide alcohol ban.
The artist posted a video from the performance on his Instagram account, criticizing each state for not doing more to curb the sale of alcohol, which is a major source of “revenue.”
Diljit said that if the government banned “sharab” music statewide, he would no longer compose songs on it.
“Agle hi din Diljit Dosanjh apni life mein kabhi sharab pe gaana nahi gayega, agar woh saari apne aap ko dry state ghoshith kardeti hai, jitni bhi states hai humare yaha. Karta hoon main pran. Hosakta, huh? Diljit Dosanjh would never perform songs about alcohol if every Indian state declares itself to be dry. I swear. Is that possible?)” he replied.
“Yes, income is a bohut bada. Theke bandh nahi huye the, corona mein sab bandh hogaya tha. Is karrahe ho aap kya baatein? Youth ko fuddu nahi bana sakte (it’s a major source of income). Everything closed during COVID-19, with the exception of bars. What do you say? “You cannot deceive the young,” he said.

When Diljit played in Hyderabad on November 15, just before the Ahmedabad event, the Telangana government sent him a legal notice requesting that he refrain from singing songs that advocated violence, drugs, or alcohol.
The warning, which was sent out only hours before his show on Friday, referenced a complaint made by a resident of Chandigarh who said that Dosanjh had played songs that encouraged violence and drinking during a prior show in New Delhi.
In the meanwhile, Diljit’s Dil-Luminati Tour will continue with stops in Bengaluru (December 6), Indore (December 8), Chandigarh (December 14), Guwahati (December 29), Lucknow (November 22), Pune (November 24), and Kolkata (November 30).
