Blinkit has introduced a pilot program in order to deliver bigger items such as gaming consoles, luggage and home appliances in Delhi NCR. This move could possibly pose a challenge to the traditional e-commerce giants such as Amazon, Flipkart among others. According to Inc42, the quick commerce platform is testing a specialized fleet dedicated to handling heavy items like PlayStation consoles, air purifiers and air fryers, as part of a strategic change in its delivery capabilities. This action lines up with the Zomato-owned company's reported plans to develop express dark stores for 30-minute delivery of products having high price, as the quick commerce industry sees growing competition to increase average order value (AOV).As of now, Blinkit's AOV is Rs 660, reflecting an 8 per cent rise from Rs 706 in the same quarter previous year. The move coincides with rivals in the quick commerce sector investigating expanded product categories. According to recent remarks made by Swiggy CFO Rahul Bothra about the company's impending IPO, competitor Swiggy Instamart is creating its own infrastructure for longer delivery timelines for some categories, but it intends to concentrate on kitchen appliances rather than big electronics."I don't think we would do large white goods electronics' it would be more of the variable category, more of the kitchen appliances," Bothra said. The pilot's success in Delhi NCR could possibly result to a broader rollout across other major metropolitan regions where Blinkit operates.
