India and Australia will lock horns in the first Test of the five-match series at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 to 26. The track in Perth will assist pacers more and both teams are expected to play with only one spinner in the final XI. R Ashwin has never played a complete series in Australia in his career and once again, he looks set to be dropped from the playing XI.Apart from Ashwin, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja are two spinners in the squad. Jadeja has often pipped Ashwin for a place in the playing XI while Sundar's form is too good to be ignored.Sundar performed exceptionally in last two Tests against New Zealand and scalped 16 wickets across four innings. But Sourav Ganguly wants India to play to Ashwin.Speaking to Revsportz, Ganguly called Ashwin India's best spinner and opined that he should play in the Perth Test match. "There is no debate. Ashwin must play. Your best spinner must play. In Test cricket, play specialists. Also, against the number of left-handers in the Australian line-up, Ashwin is certain to have impact. Yes, there is (Ravindra) Jadeja and Washington (Sundar) and both bat well, but you must go in with your best spinner in the first Test. Play with specialist batsmen and bowlers, and that’s where Ashwin is my choice," the former India captain said.Ashwin played three Tests in the 2011/12 series, 3 Tests in the 2014/15 series, 1 Test in the 2018/19 series and three Tests in the 2020/21 series. Ashwin has never played a Test match in Perth and he could once again stay on the bench as Ravindra Jadeja is ahead of him in the pecking order.Jasprit Bumrah is set to lead India in Perth as Rohit Sharma will miss the series opener due to the birth of his second child. He is likely to be available for the second Test match.
