Every day in America, an estimated 6,000 women reach menopause — and more than two million enter that stage each year.

Menopause — when a woman has gone 12 months without a period — typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Symptoms include anxiety, mood changes, hot flashes, sleep problems, weight gain, and slowed metabolism.

Another major tell? An increasingly diminished libido.

Hormone specialist, wellness coach, and menopause educator Jodie Johnson has taken to TikTok to share the three supplements she swears by to boost desire in women experiencing this life stage.

As women enter menopause, many experience feelings of confusion and frustration when it comes to their sex drive or lack thereof.

“As we go through perimenopause and menopause, our levels of estrogen and progesterone and testosterone start to tank, and all of these hormones are essential to our sexual health and well-being,” Johnson said.

She explained that estrogen keeps tissues in the vaginal area lubricated and elastic, and when it declines, women may experience dryness and discomfort during intimacy.

As testosterone, which fuels desire, tapers off, “it can feel like the spark you once had is gone.”

In addition to the aforementioned feelings of dryness and vacancy, menopause can trigger exhaustion, disrupt sleeping patterns, and amplify stress, an unholy trinity that also serves to decimate sexual desire.

“The truth is it’s not your fault. Your hormones are shifting, and your body is responding to that change,” Johnson added.

How do you regain your mojo before, during, and after menopause? Johnson said that her natural hormone-balancing protocol of three supplements works together to regulate the body and reignite desire.

Her regimen is free of HRT, BHRT, creams, patches, or any other medication commonly used to treat symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that can improve the composition of the gut microbiome by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria.

Johnson said a prebiotic probiotic blend is crucial for hormone regulation, reducing inflammation, and promoting overall wellness: “It also helps reduce bloating, making you feel more confident and comfortable with your body.”

Cortisol targeting blend

She also recommends incorporating a blend that targets cortisol, a stress hormone that can disrupt sleep and kill libido.

A blend that contains adaptogens like ashgawanda and magnolia bark can help lower cortisol levels. Johnson maintains that when the body is relaxed, it’s easier to connect to your partner and ease into intimacy.

Ignite

This blend of herbs, adaptogens, and phytonutrients supports hormone balance, blood flow, and sexual desire, according to Johnson.

“Ignite helps restore the natural levels of testosterone that boost your libido,” she said, adding that this restoration improves vaginal dryness and discomfort, “helping you feel more connected and responsive during intimacy.”

In addition, Ignite boosts overall energy levels, contributing to a sense of vitality.

Jessica Shepherd, a board-certified OB/GYN, recently shared two key tips for thriving during menopause: strength training and increased protein intake.

In addition to prioritizing protein and strength training, a new study found menopausal women who make swimming in cold water part of their routine report significant improvements in their physical and mental health.
