New Delhi: In light of links to Manchester United and Arsenal, the former Manchester City star Leroy Sane has spoken out about a possible return to the Premier League next summer. There has been no progress in Bavaria on an extension for Sane, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the current season.
According to reports, Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping an eye on the 28-year-old’s condition in anticipation of possible attempts to reintroduce Sane to English football. Earlier in his career, the winger had a great stint at Manchester City, where he won two Premier League titles and was named the PFA Young Player of the Year for 2017–18.
In 2020, Sane signed a €45 million contract to join Bayern Munich, where he has since scored 51 goals in 186 games. He stated that his present club is the ideal setting for him to put on his “best performance” and “win titles,” having won three Bundesliga crowns with Bayern. As the two sides attempt to come to an agreement on an extension, the Germany international said that talks are still going on with Bayern.
Sane is one of three high profile players whose contracts at the Allianz Arena expire in the summer. Both Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich are nearing the end of their contracts and will have the opportunity to discuss pre-contract agreements with foreign parties in January. Davies has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, while Kimmich has been mentioned as a possible transfer target for Premier League teams.
Meanwhile, we might as well witness Leon Goretzka leave the club as he has been left frustrated with his situation at the Bavarian side now. With Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also on the team’s radar, the Spanish champions intend to make moves for well-known free agents in the summer. Bayern need to plan this transfer window as some of their key players are already on the verge of leaving the Bavarian side.
There is no doubt about the fact that Leroy Sane was one of the best talents back when he was humiliating the Premier League defenders, playing for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. His pace and ability to beat the defenders makes him the perfect fit for the best league in the world. The 28-year-old forward may have lost some momentum over the years, ever since he moved to Bayern, but it will certainly be a familiar place for the German in case he makes his move to a Premier League side.
“I follow Premier League football. But the attraction for me lies in the club where I can show my best performance, develop and win titles. I have that at FC Bayern. We keep talking.” This is what Sane had to say.
It will be interesting to see how the German performs in case he moves to one of the Premier League clubs where he will be able to show his abilities on the ball. A player with high pedigree and someone who can do a lot of damage, which he showed back in his initial few seasons at Manchester City, as back in the 2017/18, the German was unstoppable with 25 goal contributions in the league, following it up with another season with 20 goal contibutions in 2018/19.
