Recently, GDP growth figures for July-September have come, which are much less than the estimated growth. The country's GDP growth in the last quarter was 5.4 percent, which is much less than the RBI's projection of 7 percent. Amidst these figures, the discussion has intensified whether the tenure of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das will be extended again. Because this was expected before the figures came. Das's tenure can be extended for the third time.

The Central Government has once extended the extension of the current Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Shaktikanta Das, and it was believed that Das would again get a chance to become the Governor of RBI for the third time. According to media reports, the recommendation for his extension has been sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. However, no decision has been taken yet and it is feared that he may not get an extension. GDP numbers should not become a villain for the RBI Governor.

Then who is the next governor?

The tenure of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das ends on December 12. Last time when Das's tenure was extended, this information was given a month in advance. This time no information has been revealed regarding this yet. Apart from this, the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting is going to be held in February 2025, out of which 6 members will be the 3 members of RBI. Because the tenure of Shaktikanta Das is ending this month and the tenure of Deputy Governor Michael Patra is ending next month. It is not yet clear who will be the next governor.

I have a lot of work - RBI Governor

Shaktikanta Das has largely avoided talking about his future, telling Bloomberg a few months ago that he was focused on his work at the RBI. He said on October 18 that my table is already full, so I don't really have time to think about what to do next.
