What is the significance of 12 days of Christmas?
1- The first day i.e. 25th December is called the first day of Christmas. Christmas celebrations start from this day itself. The first day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ.
2- The second day is celebrated as Boxing Day on 26th December. This day is also known as St. Stephen’s Day. St. Stephen was the first person who sacrificed his life for Christianity.
3- Third day: 27 December, this day is dedicated to St. John. They are considered to be apostles of Jesus Christ and his friends.
4- Fourth day, 28 December, on this day King Herod killed many innocent people while searching for Jesus Christ. On this day, those innocent people are remembered and prayed for.
5- The fifth day, December 29, is dedicated to St. Thomas, who was executed on December 29 for challenging the king’s authority over the Church in the 12th century. On this day people of the Christian community remember him.
6-Sixth day – 30th December – On this day people of Christian community remember St. Egwin of Worcester.
7- Seventh day, December 31, is said to have been celebrated by Pope Sylvester. In many European countries, New Year’s Eve is called Sylvester. Games are organized on this day. This day is also celebrated as the eve of New Year.
8- Eighth Day – 1 January which is the eighth day of Christmas, this day is dedicated to Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.
9- Ninth Day: January 2 is the day when the first Christians of the fourth century, ‘St. Basil the Great’ and ‘St. Gregory Nazianzen’ are remembered.
10- The tenth day is January 3. It is believed that Jesus Christ was named on this day. On this day the church is decorated and songs are sung.
11- Eleventh Day, January 4 St. Elizabeth of the 18th and 19th centuries was America’s first saint. He is remembered on this day.
12- Twelfth day, January 5 is considered to be the last day of Christmas festival, this day is also called Epiphany. This day is dedicated to America’s first bishop, St. John Neuman.
