The ICC has decided on a hybrid format as a solution for the 2025 Champions Trophy. A neutral location will host India’s matches, and in exchange, a neutral location will host Pakistan’s matches during Indian-hosted tournaments.

The ICC board-approved agreement will be in effect for the 2024–2027 tournament cycle. A neutral location will host India’s matches in events hosted in Pakistan and Pakistan’s matches at tournaments hosted in India.

This is true for every game, including those in the group stages and those in the elimination stages, such as the semifinals and finals.

Beginning with the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the hybrid format will also be used for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka will co-host, and the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup in India.

Any India-Pakistan match during these tournaments will take place in Sri Lanka. The 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan may also be subject to this system.

Subject to ICC clearance, the host of the event will choose the neutral location. One popular choice is the United Arab Emirates; however, Sri Lanka is also being considered.

With comparable neutral site regulations, the resolution also permits a potential Twenty20 International event including India, Pakistan, and another Asian country. The BCCI and PCB will hash out the specifics, but the ICC will not object. As the 2025 Champions Trophy draws closer, the arrangement eases the uncertainty that arose when the BCCI declined to visit Pakistan.

Political difficulties made the discussions difficult, although both governments contributed to the agreement’s approval. After originally opposing the hybrid model, the PCB is now satisfied with the outcome.
