Jaipur: Death toll in LPG tanker collision reaches 14, more than 30 people are undergoing treatment

The death toll in the LPG tanker accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway rose to 14 on Saturday, an official said here. He said that more than 30 people who sustained burn injuries in the horrific accident are undergoing treatment.

Dr Sushil Bhati, superintendent of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital, said, “Five burnt bodies were found yesterday. Eight others have died. A total of 14 people have died so far. 27 patients admitted in SMS hospital.” He is undergoing treatment and is on ventilator support.

He said the body of another victim has been taken to another hospital. Bhati said five bodies were yet to be identified. In the early hours of Friday, a truck hit an LPG tanker on the highway in Bhankrota area, causing a massive fire and more than 35 vehicles being affected.

Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar said on Friday that the condition of about half of the injured was “extremely critical”. Most of the people injured in the accident have been admitted to the 'burn unit' of SMS Hospital here.
