Sometimes one decision can change the course of an actors life. For one young actress a career-threatening setback almost ended her journey before it began. After a botched nose surgery she was ready to walk away from the industry. However with the help of a supportive filmmaker she chose to stay eventually becoming a global star. She is Priyanka Chopra.
The filmmaker reveals that the actress underwent a botched nose surgery
In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan Anil Sharma recalled how the actress underwent a nose surgery that went wrong. While rumours suggested she had the surgery to look like Julia Roberts the director clarified that it was a medical operation that simply didn’t go as she thought emphasizing that the incident was not the actors fault.
Following the surgery she lost several film projects and even offered to return the signing amount she had received from Anil Sharma. He said “At that time I had already given her a token of ₹5 lakhs. She came with the cheque saying she had been fired and was moving back to Bareilly.” He told her to keep the money and discouraged her from leaving the industry.
Anil Sharma urged her to reconsider her decision
The director also recalled how the actors family was preparing for her return home as her father had already gone back and her mother was set to resume her practice. They believed that she needed time to recover and planned for her to return to acting after a year. However Anil Sharma intervened urging them to reconsider their decision.
In the end Priyanka Chopra chose to stay in Mumbai making her film debut with The Hero alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. Later she found success with films like Aitraaz Krrish Fashion Dostana and Barfi. In the mid-2010s she made a successful transition to US entertainment starring in the television series Quantico and films such as The Matrix 4 and Citadel.
